Book cover of 'East with the Dragon' by Keith Scheid, featuring a forest scene with a large tree, green foliage, and stone steps leading into the background. A red arrow is embedded in the dirt path, hinting at adventure and mystery. The title appears in bold yellow font with a black outline, and the author's name is displayed below.

Keith loved to write and shared some of his writing in various local and regional Northwest publications. His first published book, East with the Dragon, was released on Amazon in digital and paperback formats in late May 2024. You can check it out at: https://www.amazon.com/author/keith_scheid.

His writing was inspired by his childhood experiences, his friends and family, his academic life, his travels (he went to all 50 states, 5 continents, 30 countries, and an astounding number of museums), his love of hiking and exploring, his hobbies, and the seemingly bottomless number of books that he avidly read during his lifetime.

Another way he would share his writing was through the always enthusiastically anticipated postcards he would send friends and family during his travels. They were very detailed and handwritten with tiny, fine print to fit in as much as he could on the card. Whether it was a story about a specific place or person or an observations from sitting in a park, riding a tour bus, or walking down the street—he’d share stories from watching all the people moving about their days in ways that always delighted the recipients.

He was an excellent (and fun) husband, a good father, a dear friend, a world traveler and citizen, an occasional scoundrel, a real class act, and an honorable and decent human being. He sought out adventures, enjoyed a variety of music (the last instrument he was learning to play was the ukulele) and the arts, lived a thoughtful and deliberate life, couldn’t resist the New York Times crossword puzzles, and was a huge fan of libraries (he kept every library card he ever had).

We know he would have been so proud to see East with the Dragon, finally published and available for others to enjoy. It is part of his legacy. May it be read and enjoyed all over the world.
